mexico city 2010!

Bobby and I flew out of Tijuana to get to Mexico City also known as “D.F.” (District Federal). The red-eye flight was short, only about an hour and a half. We arrived and took a cab from the airport to reach our destination point in La Condesa. As we exited the cab we found ourselves in front of an amazing art deco apartment building on Amsterdam Street. With keys in hand we entered and walked up a spiral staircase to the second floor. The room was warm, modern and tidy with a street view and a very narrow balcony.

Our first excursion was to a part of town called “La Guinea” there’s a street market that happens every Sunday and we wanted to check it out. We walked down to the metro system and figured out how to reach our destination point. A few stops later we were there, crowded streets filled with handmade goods, vintage and retro collectibles, books, magazines, jewelry and a variety of local foods to eat. I bought a few items here: teal jelly flats, a woven handmade belt, and some retro printed cards from the 70′s, and a fifth of whiskey. We were there for about two hours before it started to rain, with a hole in the bottom of my boot we decided to head back to La Condesa to dry off and get something to eat.

Later that night we hit the downtown club scene on a Sunday and ended up at “Buttergold” and I have to say they are responsible for the best drag show I have ever witnessed! With a handful of performers we witnessed a variety of entertainment, it was interesting, provocative and smart and we’re defiantly going back!

The next day we spent relaxing and resting.

On Tuesday morning we woke up early to start our trip to Teotihuacan, ancient Mexican ruins. We took a cab to a bus station where there were many tourists and a few locals. The bus ride from the city was about two hours as we arrived in rural outskirts that were green and lush. As we stepped off the bus the sun started beaming down on us, it was going to be an amazing day.

It started to rain as we left and a perfect day was complete.

Our final day and we had some errands to run we also did some last minute shopping and decided to grab a beer close by before we left to the airport. It was an amazing trip! I can’t wait to come back to this warm friendly city.
